Editiorial and Review Team

The processing of creating a book like Making the Web Work involves a number of different people, talents, and skills. The four editors listed here faced the unenviable task of reading my early drafts and providing me with their comments, suggestions, and guidance. Every page, if not every paragraph of the book bears some imprint of their feedback. Responsible parties are as folows:

Lisa Lord, Development Editor

Lisa Lord has been doing freelance editing for the past 11 years for a variety of clients in the medical, scientific, technical, and general nonfiction fields. Before that, she was an English instructor and a program coordinator for a history fair for Chicago high school students. She has also helped develop computer-based training courses for IT professionals studying for MCSE certification tests.

Scott Berkun, Technical Editor

Scott Berkun is the the training manager for user interface design and usability at Microsoft. Since 1994 he has worked as usability engineer, program manager, and lead program manager on many versions of Internet Explorer and Microsoft Windows. He writes about Web design and product usability at www.uiweb.com.

Tim Kostolansky, Technical Editor

Tim Kostolansky, currently an independent consultant, has worked in the software industry for 10 years, founding two successful startup companies. He has led teams that have built custom software for Global 500 companies. Tim is a graduate of Cornell University and has completed graduate studies in computer science at Stanford University.

Philip Haine, Technical Editor

Philip Haine is the founder and principal of Obvious Design, an interactive product design agency based in San Francisco. Philip’s experience includes interactive product design as well as product vision and strategy for Palm, The Gap, Broderbund, GTE/SuperPages, Akamai and several startups. Prior to founding Obvious Design, Philip was the lead interaction designer at Claris Corporation where he helped create Claris Organizer 2.0, Claris Impact 2.0, and Claris Emailer 2.0.

Cheryl Lemmens, Indexer

Cheryl Lemmens is a freelance indexer and editor who lives and works in Toronto. She holds a Ph.D in English from the University of Toronto and is a member of the American Society of Indexers and the Indexing & Abstracting Society of Canada.
