Professional Biography

Bob Baxley is a practicing designer who lives and works in Silicon Valley. Specializing in interaction design for both Web applications and desktop products, Bob has worked in a variety of corporate and start-up environments.

He began his career in 1990 at Claris Corporation where he served as the lead designer for the award-winning productivity application ClarisWorks. Following Claris, Bob worked for six years as an independent consultant on a variety of projects for Adobe Systems, Apple Computer, Epiphany, NetObjects, Ameritrade, and others. Later he led the design and webdev team for myCFO, a leading wealth management firm. Currently Bob is the Director of Design for Yahoo! Search where he leads the product and interface design efforts for a variety of properties including: Web search, Yahoo! Answers, My Web, and many others.

Bob’s first book was published in October of 2002 by New Riders Publishing. Titled Making the Web Work: Designing Effective Web Applications, it is the first book to explore in detail the unique challenges involved in the design of Web-based applications and services.

In addition to his contributions to the online design journal Boxes and Arrows, Bob also writes and maintains the blog, Drowning In The Current.

Bob graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in History and a B.S. in Radio/Television/Film. He also holds a Masters of Liberal Arts from Stanford University.
